AI has remained high on our agenda throughout 2023, whether it’s through open-source tool development, hosting, sponsoring, and speaking at events, or engagement with customers and partners. That is not expected to alter in 2024.
There is little doubt that artificial intelligence will continue to revolutionize the way we all work and live in the future year(s). And it’s wonderful to believe that in the next year, we’ll be able to move beyond the hype and into an era of practical application, with substantial real-world benefits.
But it’s not a guarantee. Here are few things we can all do to increase the likelihood that our investments in AI will pay off.
Consider going smaller.
While the influencers crowding your social feeds stating the ‘world has changed’ and ‘you’re falling behind if you haven’t…’ aren’t technically incorrect, their bombastic pronouncements aren’t really useful in promoting practical change for most of us.
The business imperative is frequently to ‘think large’ – more sales, greater success, and greater chances. However, if you are too focused on the broad picture, AI inertia might set in.
Most businesses cannot afford to revolutionize their whole IT stack and go ‘all-in’ on AI overnight.
Look beyond generative AI.
We recently held a series of roundtable discussions about how AI will affect the future of publishing.
The notion of an AI tool generating material or making visuals was always the go-to, and this sparked all sorts of discussions about trust, authenticity, and a race to the bottom in terms of standards.
And, while these discussions are, of course, vital and necessary, they are only one piece of the issue.
Have a good time.
Perhaps more than anything else, we should all embrace our inner kid, inner scientist, and creativity.
We’re only getting started, and the only real distinction between those ‘doing stuff with AI’ and others who are either too fearful or unclear where to begin is that they’ve done something.
Maybe it’s something tiny, maybe it’s something unrelated to work, but they’re learning and trying. That is, indeed, the order of the day.
Takeaway
Because ChatGPT has taken so many headlines, and partly – presumably – because it is the simplest to play with and comprehend, generative AI has captivated the interest of firms embracing AI.
But AI, as a tool for accomplishing things, identifying patterns, and acting rapidly, is far more helpful than its creative abilities.
It would be a mistake to overlook the benefits of this technology due to ambiguity regarding other areas of its application.
